The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) received $65 million in General Excise and Use Tax (GET) surcharge revenue this past quarter for construction of the Honolulu rail project. GET surcharge revenue for the quarter running from January to March of this year was about $9 million above projections for the quarter based on the project’s financial plan.
Council Adopts Ozawa Resolution to Televise HART Meetings

The Honolulu City Council adopted Resolution 15-80 urging the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) to begin televising immediately its meetings via Oelo or other public media at its April 2015 meeting. The resolution was proposed by Councilmember Trevor Ozawa.
City Council Introduces Real Property Tax Advisory Commission Recommendations; Residential A Bill 32 (15) up for first reading.

Under Resolution 2011-143, FD1, the Honolulu City Council established a Real Property Tax Advisory Commission comprised of seven citizens. According to Council Chair Martin, “Seeing that the Hawaii State Constitution was amended in 1978 to establish a Tax Review Commission, I felt that Oahu taxpayers should also have the same benefit of a periodic review of the City’s tax policy.” The role of the commission is purely advisory and its recommendations are sent to the council for review and legislative action.
